Publicity Activities for Fiscal Year of 2012

  • August Explained the work of NBRP-Paramecium at the Second Meeting of CINAR-Pathobacter Stuttgart 2012 (FP-7).
    September Exhibited in a booth entitled “Paramecium caudatum and endocellular symbionts” at the Animal Space of the 83rd Annual Meeting of the Zoological Society of Japan held in Osaka.
    November Gave a talk entitled “Roles of Paramecium caudatum as a national bioresource” at the “NBRP Symposium – Challenges of the third stage” held in Tokyo Conference Center Shinagawa. Poster exhibition at the 45th Annual Meeting of Japan Society of Protozoology in Himeji.
    December Booth exhibition at the 35th Annual Meeting of the Molecular Biology Society of Japan held in Fukuoka (Program).

Kohara, Director General of National Institute of Genetics (Chair of Committee for the Promotion of NBRP) visited Yamaguchi University.

Secretariat and members of the Committee for the Promotion of National BioResource Project (Chair: Yuji Kohara, Director General, National Institute of Genetics) by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan, as well as personnel involved in the steering committee visited Yamaguchi University on 6th October for the NBRP Paramecium Steering Committee meeting and a site visit.

On that day, after a speech by Trustee Kazuo Yoshii of Yamaguchi University, Dr. Fujishima, representative of the project, started off the committee meeting by elaborating on the details of the operation plans such as implementation structure of the organization; operation plans for the fiscal year; progress report on collection, maintenance and distribution of resources and publicity activities. After that, everyone involved visited the laboratory facilities located in the Research and Education Building which maintain the world’s best Paramecium caudatum species. We, Yamaguchi University, as the core institution will strive to collect and maintain Paramecium caudatum strains, distribute stabilized strains, strengthen our country’s life science researches and contribute towards ensuring global dominance.
